It is approximately 2 hours from Aguada and offers major car rental counters, taxis, and rideshare services. While a smaller regional airport is closer to Aguada, flights there are often significantly more expensive; we recommend comparing prices but booking through SJU for better value.

The San Juan Cathedral (Catedral Basilica Menor de San Juan Bautista) in Old San Juan is the second-oldest Catholic church in the Americas and the oldest on U.S. soil. Originally built in 1521, it features a unique blend of Gothic and Neoclassical architecture. - &nbsp;The cathedral holds the marble tomb of the famous Spanish explorer and first colonial governor of Puerto Rico, Juan Ponce de León. - &nbsp;It houses the wax-covered, mummified remains of the Roman martyr St. Pio in a glass display box.

The sweet mix of coconut cream, pineapple juice, white rum, and ice was born in San Juan, but the identity of its creator is still an unresolved controversy on the Island. Three different bartenders claim the invention as their own. The&nbsp;<a href="https://www.discoverpuertorico.com/profile/caribe-hilton/2" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Caribe Hilton Hotel</a>, one of the most famous in San Juan, is the setting for two of the origin stories of the piña colada. On the one hand, the Caribe Hilton insisted that the recipe was crafted by Ramón “Monchito” Marrero, a bartender who worked at the hotel’s Beachcomber Bar and was commissioned to create a signature cocktail back in 1954. Marrero reportedly spent three months crafting this cocktail that, according to many sources, Hollywood legend Joan Crawford declared “was better than slapping Bette Davis in the face.”On the other hand, Ricardo García — who was another bartender at the Caribe Hilton — alleged he came up with the refreshing recipe that same year as a result of a coconut shortage that forced him to improvise.

Castillo San Felipe del Morro (El Morro) is an iconic 16th-century Spanish citadel located at the northwestern tip of Old San Juan, Puerto Rico. Sitting atop a rocky promontory overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its rich history, sweeping ocean views, and sprawling grassy esplanade. &nbsp;Commissioned by Spain in 1539 to defend San Juan Bay from pirates and rival European powers. Over centuries, it expanded into a massive six-level fortress. El Morro guarded the island for hundreds of years, eventually serving as a U.S. military base during both World Wars. &nbsp;In 1961, the U.S. Army retired the fort, turning it over to the National Park Service. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983.
